Book Review: Tuesdays with Morrie
One of the highlights of my freshman year was meeting a junior who I instantly became friends with because of our love for reading. She had a whole list of books that she wanted to read, so I picked a few that sounded good to me and this was one of them. When I went to go visit my grandma, she had this book in her home and I decided to take it.
Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom is about Mitch visiting his old college professor, Morris Schwartz, while he's dying of ALS to learn about his life and lessons that he could pass down. This small biography was very well done and hold lessons that still reign to be true even though this book was published back in 1997. This proves to show that multiple lessons such as "Love each other other or perish" and " In the beginning of life, when we are infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get old, you need others to survive, right? But here's the secret: in between, we need others as well" are valuable for any generation.
This book is the perfect length for anyone to read at only 192 pages. The book starts out by going back to Mitch's college days and Morrie's and Mitch's lives since graduation. Majority of the book is the time they meet to discuss valuable lessons to take and cherish throughout your life ranging from money and love to learning to forgive yourself and regrets in life. Nothing was confusing about the book at all, nothing was hard to decipher from the text.
What I thought was going to be a simple book that I would read once and take nothing away from it, this book will be one of the best I've ever read. There were so many good lines I could write a whole post about them. Everyone should be required to read this, either at school or for just required to read that in everyday life. It's a genuine true gem all about a teacher's lasing impact that proves that one good person can change your life for the better.
